Barclay / Viewforth Parish Grouping

Barclay Parish Church

During late 2003 the parish churches of Barclay and Viewforth in central Edinburgh started discussions to form a parish grouping. Both churches were designed by Pilkington so have a shared origin, which we are now working to bring to a modern fruitful working partnership. The purpose of such a grouping amongst Church of Scotland congregations is to bring about a better working together of the congregations and to better share resources. These discussions were successfully concluded in 2004 and approved by the Presbytery of Edinburgh.

The documents formalising that agreement are accessed by links below:-

Basis of Parish Grouping - Edinburgh Presbytery's document formalising the Grouping.

Constitution - Devised jointly by the two congregations describing how the Grouping will operate

A group called the Joint Strategy Group has been set up with representatives from both congregations and this group is meeting regularly to discuss how the two churches may move the project forward. A joint vision has already been agreed.

By 2010 Barclay and Viewforth will:

  • know and trust each other as friends and partners
  • have an established rhythm of working together
  • be actively engaged with the twenty-to forty-age-group in the area.

Making this vision happen is the job of four Delivery Groups:

  • Church life
  • Education and worship
  • Parish mission
  • National and international mission

If you would like more information about the parish grouping, please e-mail the church office or contact our minister, Tony Thornthwaite.
